Sandi Madsen, the owner of Ollie's Parrot's Perch, has been a resident of Dekalb, Illinois for more than 10 years. The family moved to Dekalb for its quiet, country atmosphere.

An avid animal lover, Sandi decided to make a career change and worked at the Genoa Animal Hospital for a year, while taking classes at Kishwaukee College to prepare for a career in veterinary technology.

After acquiring an amazon parrot named Ollie who had behavior "issues," however, she became interested in avian behavior and decided to go in that direction. Along with boarding and grooming birds and educational outreach, Sandi also runs a foster care facility for rescued parrots. A Place to Call Home is an Illinois licensed, not for profit organization that takes in unwanted pet parrots and finds loving homes for them. She is a Certified Avian Specialist and AFA Certified Aviculturist, involved with the Pet Industry Joint Advisory Council and PEAC.

MISSION STATEMENT

The mission of A Place to Call Home Parrot Rescue and Adoption is to provide long and short term care for companion birds by providing proper nutrition, housing, exercise, medical care, training, rehabilitation and stimuli to create healthy, happy and well adjusted pets. We are dedicated to finding loving, long term homes for all of our birds whenever possible.

A Place to Call Home is also committed to providing educational resources and programs to bird owners, volunteers and the general public with hope that by educating people about care and ownership of companion birds, we will be able to enhance the lives of these birds everywhere.

Ollie's now has a retail store just for your parrot at 114 Main Street in Creston, IL.! We have a great selection of toys for all sizes of birds, Hagen pelleted diet and many other items as well. Also, you can check out our e-store, where we sell George's Aloe Liquid, Orange TKO Cleaner and parrot giftware like hand painted Christmas ornaments. A percentage of the profits from the store go to support the birds at A PLACE TO CALL HOME, a parrot rescue facility (and our sister organization).
