FEATURED BIRDS OF THE MONTH |
We have about 2 hand-tame cockatiels looking for homes!

Alex, male Goffin's cockatoo. Alex is spending time with Sandi, who is working with him. What a great little bird!!! He has some issues with his feet and doesn't perch or step up very well, but he is not aggressive and LOVES to cuddle! He is a bit afraid of new surroundings and tends to fly to the ground and try to hide behind or under things. You can literally pick him up by grabbing him and carrying him to his cage (or the couch for cuddle time). He is afraid of dogs and can be "beak-y" when scared, but doesn't bite very hard. With lots of love and attention, he will make a great companion bird. He is moderately loud, but only at certain times, otherwise he is pretty quiet for a 'too. Click here for more photos.

Foster to Adopt Program
Persons who have a bird that they would like to rehome, but are not in a situation where they need to rehome immediately can join the Foster to Adopt Program. For a fee of $25.00, you can place your bird on the adoption page of our website and we will take care of accepting applications and screening all interested parties. While the bird is listed and waiting to be adopted, the owner continues to foster and care for the bird. When a suitable applicant is found, we would either refer that person to the owner or the bird can be relinquished to our rescue pending the adoption. If we refer the applicant, we would take a finder's fee and the owner is able to meet and choose to adopt to that applicant. They agree to our adoption process and to adopt out using the adoption fee set by us. We collect the fee, subtract the finder's fee and mail the difference to the owner. If the bird is surrendered to us, we keep the entire adoption fee.To be placed on the website, we would need a picture and/or video of the bird, a short bio, and copies of a recent vet visit to post. You can email those to: olliesparrotperch@yahoo.com

Out-of-state Adoptors
We would waive the home visit, but would require letters of reference (2-3). The visits can be 3 days in a row; for instance a Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Since we do not ship birds, we would release the bird to you to take home with you, providing that you show us that you have made arrangements to take the bird with you, (without shipping as it is too stressful on a shelter bird.), that you have a proper carrier for the trip and that you have an adequate cage for the bird when it arrives at your home with you. Your first step is to complete the application and fax it to us at 815-384-3190. Then you should call us to see if we recieved it and if you have been approved and if so, we will need to make arrangements for you to come out. We can conduct the interview as part of your first visit.
