Schweitzer
Schweitzer is a female african grey. Yes, I said female. She came with that name and was one of the first birds we acquired at the rescue. She does say her name, so we kept it. She talks a lot but not to strangers! She whistles and often makes up her own "songs" . She also knows some of her colors and is "teaching" them to Kramer...well not really, but he is learning his colors, too. Another feather plucker, Schweitzer has her times where they grow in. She is a very nervous bird and most of the plucking is do to that. |

Leia
This is Leia waving hello. She is a 14 year old, greenwing macaw. Leia was given to us by a young girl who was moving and could not take her with her. As you can see from her photo, Leia plucks her chest feathers a bit, although she is slowly getting in more than she picks out! She says "hello" and "pretty bird" and waves with a clutched hand. She is shy with strangers and we are working on that with her. She is also sweet natured and gets along with everyone in the flock. Hopefully she will allow all of her feathers to come in and she will truly be the "Beautiful flower" as her name suggests. |

Kramer
Kramer is our newest member of the flock. He came to us from a girl who realized that his feather destruction was not getting better, and although she tried to eradicate the behavior, she could not. She felt he must be needing more than she could give him and contacted us. He is now fully feathered and our second best talker. He has quite a personality and his favorite saying is: "Step up! No bite!" He is a male eclectus and is around 6 years old.
2nd picture. Kramer is now fully feathered! |

Coral
Coral is the absolute sweetest bird ever! She is a Moluccan cockatoo who is about 18 years old and she is my baby. She came to us 3 years ago from a family where her former owner had passed away from cancer. She is a mutilator, which means she chews holes in her flesh. We were able to heal the open wound, but given the opportunity, she will chew another. So now she wears a little vest ( and sometimes a hat, too) to protect her chest. She is not a big talker and she wants you to hold her 24/7 or she will scream for attention. She lets any one pick her up and is a favorite whenever we take her out to see the public. |

Cherry
I don't know why Cherry was given up; we are the 3rd "owners". Cherry is a sweet natured female eclectus and is a very quiet bird. She will step up for anyone and is in perfect feather and we would never give her up! She does not talk and is in the program mainly because of her brillant colors and the uniqueness of her species (the males are a totally different color.) She is a bit fiesty witht he other birds but loves to "hang out" with Leia and Coral as part of what I call the 3 Musketeers. |

Beaker
Beaker, who is a blue and gold macaw, came to us at a mere 10 months old. The breeder who sold him did a horrendous wing trim on him which is not good for a "baby" who is still learning to fly and balance! Because he kept falling, he broke off most of his tail feathers which just made the problem worse. The breeder then sold Beaker to a man with Parkinson's disease and the trembling of his hands did not give Beaker the sense of security that he needed to step up and he would bite the man. Once we got Beaker, we had him learn to step up on a flat surface (our hands) and he began to build his confidence. Then we had to wait for his wing and tail feathers to grow back in. He is now 3 years old and still hasn't perfected his landings so he crashes and breaks tail feathers whenever he tries to fly. He is a real character, though, a ham at all of our programs. He loves men. He talks like crazy, picking up new stuff all the time! We have to watch what we say! His favorite pastimes are waving to the crowd and pinching people. |
