Hi! I'm Kim and I've loved birds for as long as I can remember. I've only recently purchased companion parrots and it's the best time I've had in a long time. The thrill of being able to communicate with a bird, teaching them your language while you're learning theirs .... Wow!

There are so many beautiful and loving birds that need a good home. Please consider adopting before you go to a breeder!

Amanda Villacreses volunteers her time doing Animal Communication for the rescue birds.

Amanda has lived with animals her whole life, but discovered her love for birds at the ripe old age of 19, when she began working for an avian vet in Los Angeles. Her family includes 3 birds, 2 human children, and 3 cats (and 1 very patient husband).

Amanda has been working with birds for 17 years. She has been a veterinary technician, an animal keeper at the Los Angeles Zoo and the Playboy Mansion Zoo, and a bird nanny in Beverly Hills. She has worked with breeding birds-finches, toucans, macaws and other parrots, condors. She has also been a bird-sitter for the last 10 years.

Amanda truly feels that birds have guided her to a healthful lifestyle of fresh organic foods, holistic medical care and communing with nature.

Lori and Haley help volunteer two days out of the month at Ollie's. Lori has loved birds since she was a teenager and bought her first bird (Mickey a Quaker) at 16. After the passing of Mickey and another pet bird (Sky) recently, they both have decided to honor their lives by helping at a bird rescue for those birds that are still trying to find their forever home.

Their interests are not only the love of birds, but karate. Both Lori and Haley are first degree brown belts and are currently training for their first degree black belt.

Lori lives in Montgomery with her husband Joe, Haley and another daughter Allison.  They have two quakers, Frankie - 13 years old and a recently adopted Chloe - 6 years old (from Ollie's) and one dog named Thor.

Volunteers Wanted!!!!!

Ollie's is looking for reliable volunteers in the Dekalb area who would like to learn about the care and training of parrots in a hands-on environment. No experience necessary, but you shouldn't be intimidated by beaks! The position is for one or two days a week, during the daytime hours. Cleaning cages, preparing and feeding the birds, giving showers, exercise and love are what's involved. Interested? Call Sandi at 815-384-3170.
