HOW YOU CAN HELP
Volunteers Wanted!!!!! A Place to Call Home is looking for reliable volunteers in the DeKalb/Sycamore/Rochelle/Rockford area who would like to learn about the care and training of parrots in a hands-on environment. No experience necessary, but you shouldn't be intimidated by beaks! The position is for one or two days a week, during the daytime hours. Cleaning cages, feeding and watering the birds, giving showers, exercise and love are what's involved. Interested? Call Sandi at 815-384-3170.

It can cost around $20,000 per year to run A Place to Call Home Parrot Rescue. While we recover some of these costs through adoption fees, sales at Ollie's Parrots Perch, program fees and fundraising, our Founder, Sandi Madsen has to make up the difference at the end of each month. Below are some opportunities for you to help us meet our fundraising goals:
• We recycle INKJET and TONER cartridges as well as OLD CELL PHONES through fundingfactory.com. Save yours up and bring them to or mail to: 114 Main St, Creston, IL 60113.
• Donate items for us to sell in the annual Creston community garage sale in July (no clothes please). Last year we raised over $500 because of your donations! The closer to July you can bring the items to us, the better because we have limited space to store them.
• Sponsor a Parrot from A Place to Call Home Parrot Rescue:
Our birds come from a variety of backgrounds. Some of them have been neglected or abused, some had owners who had to give them up because of major changes in their lives, some had behavioral issues their owners could not work through, others are retired breeders. Whatever their history, they all cost money to take care of every month. We typically have around 70 birds of various sizes and our accountant has come up with an estimated average cost of care for each bird on a monthly basis. This cost includes food, filtered water and a proportion of our operational overhead based on bird size. The estimated costs are listed below:

• One of our biggest expenses is Veterinary care. So we are starting a new fund that will only be used to pay for the veterinary care of our Shelter birds. Email Sandi at olliesparrotperch@yahoo.com subject line: "Veterinary Fund" to learn how you can help!
• Another large expense for us is toys and perches. We try to make many of our own, but we also have a lot of large Macaws and Cockatoos that chew through them very quickly. • Don't feel comfortable around large beaks, but still want to help? We are also looking for an Adoptions Coordinator, a Volunteer Coordinator, an Outreach/Publicity/Advertising Director, and a new Bookkeeper/Secretary type individual.
